1. What is the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
This scheme consists of a refund of ferry tickets for Gozo residents who practice a sport with a club in Malta. Each applicant can be refunded for ferry tickets, up to a maximum of €500 per year.
2. Who is eligible to the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
Anyone whose main residence is in Gozo and who practices a sport as part of a club in Malta.
3. Who is not eligible for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
- Anyone whose main residence is in Gozo and who travels to Malta to practice a sport as an individual and is not part of a club that is based in Malta.
- Anyone whose main residence is in Gozo and is part of a Gozo based sports club and attends for competitions/events held in Malta.
- Anyone whose main residence is in Gozo and takes part in competitions and/or attends any other sporting event in Malta as an individual.
4. How can I apply for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
Applications for the subsidy to Full-Time students can be found online on: http://www.mygozo.gov.mt or by downloading the free app ‘myGozo’ onto a smartphone or tablet.
5. The system is not letting me apply as I am not yet 18 years old. How can I apply for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
If you are still under 18 years old, a parent or a legal guardian can apply on your behalf. The online application includes a question specifying whether a parent or legal guardian is applying on behalf of a child or dependent person. In this case, the ‘Yes’ option should be chosen. Fields for the athlete’s details will then become available.
6. What documents do I need to prepare before I apply?
A copy of the below documents are to be submitted with the online application:
- An official letter from the club the athlete is part of stating that the applicant is part of the club.
- An attendance record that is endorsed by an official in charge of the club.
- Ferry tickets used on the days you attended/travelled to Malta in connection with the sport you practice.
7. Why has my application not been accepted?/Why is my application still ‘Pending’?
Applications will not be accepted unless hard copies of the documents stated in question 6 are submitted to the Subsidies Office.
8. Why has my application been rejected?
When an application is rejected an email will be sent by the Subsidies Section giving the reason for the rejection and explaining what steps need to be taken if applicable.
9. What information do I need to fill in my application/What information is required to complete the application/What does the application include?
- Personal Details
- I.D. Card Number
- IBAN Number
- Formal Name of the Sports Association/Federation/Club the athlete is a part of
- Number of trips to Malta
10. What travel tickets are eligible for a refund for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
- All ferry tickets including Gozo Channel and the Fast Ferry tickets are refundable.
- Athletes under 16 years travelling without a parent/guardian are entitled for full compensation.
11. When will I receive my subsidy for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme?
Payment for the subsidy for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme is usually issued within a month of the application being accepted.
12. How will I receive the subsidy for the Gozitan Sportsperson Assistance Scheme and what is the limit of compensation?
The payment is made by direct credit to the account with the IBAN you provide in the application and the total yearly allowance is of €500.
